A Shady Inn

Long John’s Showbar, Great Yarmouth, UK

Thank you, K Rawson, for hosting What Pegman Saw ( https://whatpegmansaw.com/2019/07/13/great-yarmouth-uk/ )

It felt great, as always!

A Shady Inn

Luckily, when we entered the dimly-lit inn, it was almost deserted. Just a half-asleep worker behind the counter.

“Good!” said Nathan in a hushed whisper, “So what’s the next plan?”

“Just act as if we are mere tourists,” I said.

“Good inn, mate!” said Nathan to the man in the counter, “Old fashioned, huh?”

The man mumbled something and then asked in a hoarse voice, “What ye want?”

That was rude, I know but there wasn’t time to complain.

“Bacon, “ I began but was interrupted by a strong tug in the shoulder.

“Look over there, Al,” Nathan pointed to a stranger sitting at the farthest corner, holding a glass with his slender fair fingers.

His long hair was tied in a ponytail and a dark cape hit his shoulder. He was prince, it seemed, pursuing or escaping a dark secret.

Good, then there are darker men than us.

Courage

These days, poetry has given me a new language to express myself. Every thought, every emotions, every feelings can be expressed through it.

Alex Tyson Carey’s courage at the 2nd semi-final of the ICC Cricket Tournament really shook my heart. And at last I’ve got a way to express it.

Dedicated to Carey,

Courage

Courage is not bragging

Or boasting in front of the world,

Nor it is a miracle

Promising no falls—

But it is, indeed, a promise

To get up back again,

To put on a smile

In front of sadness and pain;

To be level head

In the darkest of days,

To shine like a star,

In the darkest of nights;

To fight,

To fight on till the end;

And if defeat comes,

Accepting it the gallant way.

Discoveries Underneath

When I saw it for the first time, I thought it was some sort of stupid building made for show. But it was during a windy summer day when I finally discovered the secrets beneath it.

It was there, in the middle of a uncannily deserted road, burning up in the sun. I was messing up with it, trying to find the “mysteries” behind it. It was then I had found out the swirling stairs hidden beneath this structure leading to the place of highly technological place of giants. And guess what? They had giant phones and came over here at midnight to charge them!

Post Script:

I am really sorry for this stupid little tale. It’s actually a part of a larger series called “Discoveries of Jos, Far and Wide” I’m so gloomy that can’t really use my words well. Thanks for reading!

“You Are A Traitor”

I don’t really know where to begin for I’ve been bottling these emotions since a long time ago and constantly arguing with myself, “Oh, that’s nothing to worry!”

It all started back in the beginning of the ICC World Cup 2019. I and my younger sister were supporting Australia, New Zealand and England to star in the matches. However, I don’t live in either of the places, and the country to where I belong is also a cricket-playing nation. So every day, we —I and my sister— showered with scorns about supporting some ‘foreign countries’.

“You are a Traitor”

I’ve lost count of how many times we have been hearing this. My poor sister is suffering much more than me perhaps because she’s more outspoken than me.

Aki, another person like us, who dares to be different from the rest

Almost everyone, every near and dear ones too, have turned against us. They think we are just petty traitors who love the “foreign” teams, instead of our motherland, just because they are fair and good-looking.

But this is not true, and neither is it justified. I don’t really believe in the concept of countries where you divide our world just on some political basis. If I were to acknowledge some place as ‘motherland’, then it would be nothing other than the Earth.

The Whole World Is My Motherland

“Remember, no men are strange, no countries foreign”

No Men Are Foreign, James Kirkup

I agree exactly with the great poet James Kirkup. This world belongs to everyone sharing it. Every fellow human being is our brother. So why can’t we choose a few of our brothers against others? Why should something like political boundaries come in between something as infinite as love?

I like Australia, New Zealand and England cricket team because they are good teams. Because the players are interesting. Because I am mesmerized by their personalities. Nothing to do with their skin colour or looks!

There is one particular girl in my sister’s class who constantly mocks my sister as ‘Traitor’. One day, it’s okay. But day after day, it does not remain friendly any more. Unfortunately and coincidently, that girl’s elder sister studies in my class. Just a few days ago she was indirectly trying to imply that ‘It’s our culture to lick other’s boots’.

We two are trying our best not to express our dark feelings on being called a traitor. We are not angry, not in the least, but really hurt. Every day the fogs of pain and discomfort and sadness hover in our hearts. In this dark moments, we are trying to find hope in our fictional friends. They give us strength and hope…

Thank you, everyone, for reading this.

Everyone is different and that’s alright! We can have different views and choices.

I wanted to scream out to the world about my feelings and that’s what I am doing right now. Perhaps this is my longest post so far and I am truly thanking everyone who has given their time to listen to this emotional outburst.

Brooding

I don’t know why, but it seems, writing has somehow come in my blood. I really loved to write since a long time ago but now, it seems I can’t live without writing… And nowadays, it seems to me, poetry is one of the best way to express emotions and feelings. And perhaps that’s why I’m writing so many of them! (Most of them are really nothing more than scribbles, though 🙂 but I still like to write) Today, in literature class, I wrote one too.

Brooding

Sitting at a corner,

With a frown in my face,

Musing, brooding,

Thinking, moody,

Can’t get hold of this race

Of thoughts in my mind.

I don’t know why,

But a shallow mist of sadness,

Hovers over my heart.

Worries apart,

I tell myself and sigh,

My mind is an absolute mess!

Thoughts, dreams and voices sever,

All my concentration.

Oh, I’m so absent-minded forever!

9th July, 2019

Dear Diary,

I know, day by day, my entries to you are getting fewer and fewer… I am really sorry for that but you see, we are so busy about our shifting! It really pains me, to think we can’t live in this valley anymore. I can’t run in the soft grasses in the meadows, I can’t ramble all day long or watch the sunrise and sunset over the hues of the hills… Every day, my parents are taking tours on carts to the Linnet Town and shifting bit by bit. I am alone at home, most of the times, clearing attic and sheds.

Today, however, I have skipped most of my chores. Why? Today is ICC World Cup 1st semi-finals! India vs New Zealand! I am praying to God that New Zealand wins! Speaking of the world cup, I have already made a new friend at Linnet Town! He is a Euclonic (a different religion) but loves the World Cup just as much as I do! He is supporting Australia and said, if the Aussies lost, he would die. Isn’t it too much? He is 20 year old and much older than me. I too wish Aussies would win the World Cup. Either NZ or England can be runner-up. Really, these fellows from Earth have invented such interesting games… Why don’t we have such in our Cygnet? But luckily I’ve heard, in Linnet Town, every year they have a Dragon Race. Now that would be interesting! Oh, I am excited and disappointed at the same time.

By the way, I had found a rusty tin box in our shed. After my parents return, I’ll open it. Maybe it’s just a piece of old junk but I believe there’s some adventure in it!

Cheers,

Yours,

Kain
